Newtown and the Rockies to meet in Glamour Final.

Newtown and Blackrock will meet in what promises to be a cracking Cork County Senior Hurling Final on 15th Sept in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Both teams overcame indifferent first half performances to book their place for what the media are calling "The glamour final everyone wanted". Blackrock will go into t he game as 2 to 1 on favourites. (cashmans bookmakers odds)

Newtown had by far their best performance of the year so far in disposing of a disappointing Avoundhu performance that promised so much when they started like lighting with a goal form John Quinlan and 2 points from Mervyn Gammell. At this stage Newtown's inside line seemed to be in big trouble, but once the superb half-back line of the majestic Pat Mulcahy and the equally impressive Philip Noonan and Alan T O'Brein began to dominate the supply of ball to the Avondhu full-forward line Dried up.

The performance of Newtown's half-back line plus the dominance of Declan Muprhy and to a lesser extent Ian Kelliher at midfield meant a plentiful supply of good ball to Newtown's forwards who squandered little and their winning total of 2-18 was mostly from play.

* It must be said that this was also caused by the unwillingness of the referee to blow for obvious fouls from both sides.

Newtown went in at the break only two points to the good after dominating most of the half. A second goal from John Quinlan after a mistake by the clearly unfit Gerry O'Mahony meant the game was still very much in the melting pot.

However after 30 seconds of the second half this game was over as a contest. First Gerry O'Connor, now operating at full forward, billowed the Avondhu net following a great run from the 40 and points form Ben, Alan T O'Brien and Gerry put 8 points between the sides.

Avondhu seems to drop their heads at the point and numerous substitutions seems to have even more of an unsettling effect on them. For Avondhu only Michael Morrissey, Damien McNamara, and Diarmuid Lynch can hold their heads up and say they gave it everything, as once again the big names from Mallow and Charleville failed to Fire.

Newtown can look forward to a second county final in three years and go into it with nothing to loose. Everyone expects the Rockies to claim back to back titles and with the talent at their disposal the are justified going into this games as overwhelming favourites.

However Newtown people think their team has a right chance of causing a big upset and if they can raise their game another notch from last Sunday the Rockies will have to play extremely well to beat them.
