The Senior Hurlers travel to Fermoy on Sunday 21st July 2002, to take on Midleton in the third round of the Hurling Championship.

This is undoubtedly a very tricky assignment for the locals. It would be fair to say that recent form is giving cause for concern and it is with some trepidation that this game is being approached.

It has been difficult to have a full panel training with recent commitments to the Cork Senior Hurling Squad, that of course is no fault of anybody, and those players have been a huge loss in all recent games.

Midleton have always been tough opposition for Newtown and this time will prove no exception. Under the guidance of one of Cork's former greats, John Fenton, they will be itching for the game and a tough 60 minutes are on the cards.
