Senior Hurling Championship - Sunday 21st July 2002 @ Fermoy
Newtownshandrum 6-13    Midleton 1-6

The senior hurlers put on one of their best displays this season with a massive winning margin of 22 points over Midleton on a splendidly preparted pitch at Fermoy last Sunday night, 21st July 2002.

Marvellous goals by John Paul King, James Bowles and Ben O'Connor certainly knocked the heart out of the Midleton challenge and the game was over as a contest after the first half.

Fast and direct ball supply to the forwards paid rich dividends, and with the backs in no concessionary mood Midleton found scores hard to come by.

Of course tougher tests lie ahead, and it would be foolish to draw conclusions from this game where Midleton were clearly a pale shadow of former sides from that great club.

However, new coach Tom Ryan expressed his satisfaction at the manner in which this victory was achieved.
