DIARMUID O’SULLIVAN, who recently announced he was quitting football to concentrate on hurling,
will miss Cork’s Allianz NHL clash with Wexford at Wexford Park on Sunday
because of a groin injury.
O’Sullivan’s full-back berth has been allocated to Pat Mulcahy of
Newtownshandrum and the selectors have also made a number of changes
from the side that fashioned an exciting one point victory over Limerick
in the opening round.
Cian Murphy of Erins Own, who escaped serious injury in a car accident on
Monday night, is replaced at left corner-back by Brian Murphy of Bride Rovers,
who played with CIT in last weekend’s Fitzgibbon Cup final.
Both Derek Barrett and Michael O’Connell, who were substituted in the Limerick
game, will start again at midfield.
Jerry O’Connor, introduced as a replacement for Barrett and scorer of the winning point, will start at left
half-forward. Eoin Fitzgerald moves to right corner-forward in place of O’Connor’s twin brother Ben, who had a number of stitches inserted in a wound in a recent challenge match.
CORK (SH v Wexford): D.og Cusack; W. Sherlock, P. Mulcahy, B. Murphy;
J. Gardiner, R. Curran S. og O'h-Ailpin; D. Barrett, M. O'Connell;
N. McCarthy, T. McCarthy, J. O'Connor; E. Fitzgerald, J. Deane, A. Browne.
