O'Connor fit for semi-final

BEN O'CONNOR has been passed fit to play for Newtownshandrum in Sunday's All-Ireland hurling semi-final.

O'Connor missed training for the last two weeks after picking up a knee ligament injury in a recent challenge match, but will almost certainly play, probably with the aid of heavy strapping.

The Newtown team will be named later in the week, but captain John McCarthy looks set to return at corner-back after missing the Munster semi-final and finals wins due to an ankle injury.

O'Loughlin Gaels have named Jimmy Comerford at corner-forward, but he will undergo a fitness test before the throw-in after injuring his back in his work as a carpenter.

O'LOUGHLIN GAELS - K Cleere; B Kelly, B Hogan, B Murphy; A O'Brien, A Comerford, S Dowling; N Bergin, A Geoghegan; M Comerford, C Furlong, N Skehan; J Comerford, M Nolan, B Dowling.
