Millennium Booklet Launch

At a packed Clubhouse on Friday night 13th July 2001, the offical launch of the NewtownShandrum booklet took place. Speakers for the evening were Chairman Mike Morrissey and Former Cork Hurling Star Tomas Mulcahy.

Tomas Mulcahy spoke of the fantastic job that the committee had done in producing this tremendous booklet. He spoke on how the Senior team had put Newtown firmly on the Cork Hurling map and the respect they had gained in doing so.

He told the large attendance on how lucky these bunch of players are at winning a county senior medal at the first attempt. He himself contested five county finals to emerge victorious on only one occasion.

Credit must go to Tomas for cutting his family holiday to Kerry short so as to attend this launch. Thanks again Tomas.

The Chairman told us all what a proud moment it was for him and indeed every Newtown person on the 17th of October 2000. He congratulated the committee on the excellent job they had done in putting this booklet together. He told all present that the book is a fantastic momento for anybody that might not have been so lucky as to have been present at the games last year.

Personally I believe this booklet will not be appreciated in full, until we are looking back on the achievements of 2000 in 10 or 15 years time.

ALL ARE WELCOME

Introduction
Since Newtownshandrum GAA was founded in 1884, many great men went before us who had their share of success and failure. It is only right therefore that those who wore the jersey throughout the club's history should not be forgotten. They were the people who sowed the seed for what we enjoy to-day .We were fortunate that in the year 2000 we brought the Sean Og Cup to the village for the first time. It was done as much for them and for ourselves as for the club's officers and supporters of to-day.

This book is dedicated to all those who made this dream possible. It didn't happen to-day or yesterday. To all the players who have given us such enjoyment year after year, a heartfelt thank you to you all and finally to all the club's supporters and friends it is only fitting that this booklet is a memory of what can be achieved.

In compiling this booklet we would like to thank all those who gave of their time and help in bringing together a marvelous memory which will be cherished for years to come.

Chairman's Address

For all of us lucky enough to be part of the glory year 2000,the memories will always remain as long as we shall live.

I pay tribute to the people who have put together this compilation so that those memories will always be part our great history and for all those who will come after us in the club, to share those great moments in picture and word.

Much has been said and written about the great adventure of '00. Great credit to each and every one associated with that success and it was indeed a proud moment for me as chairman of this great club to welcome them back to Newtown on a night never to be forgotten. Thanks indeed for the cherished moments.

Mike Morrissey
Chairman
