Newtown march on to Historic first County Final

Newtownshandrum 1-18 Muskerry 1-14

History was made in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday when Newtownshandrum recorded a fantastic win over Muskerry to reach their first ever Senior hurling County final. This was a day to remember for the people of Newtown and one cannot underestimate the magnificence of this achievement. Newtown opened brightly and steadily opened up a 7 point lead before Muskerry registered their first score. With the aid of the strong wind, Newtown were able to pick off their scores with deadly efficency and they held a 7 point lead at halftime.

Newtown Thunder through to Semi-finals

Newtownshandrum 1-10 Avondhu 0-12

On Saturday night last at an excellently prepared Charleville venue, Newtown took on the pick of their own division and came out on top before an attendance close on 5,000 people to book their place in the Semi-finals of this years TSB Senior Hurling championship.

It really is fairytale stuff when you consider Newtown, with an adult playing population of no more than 40, talking on and beating an entire division Avondhu, with a pick of more than 1,000 players.

Newtown on the Glory trail

THEY are, in the eyes of many hurling purists in Cork, revolutionaries. The manner in which Newtownshandrum play the game, retaining and recycling possession, wouldn’t suit many of the traditionalists but many see it as the way forward in hurling. And no one can argue with the under age success of the Avondhu club which takes a giant leap onto the SHC semi final stage on Sunday 17th September at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Newtown Outclass College

Newtownshandrum 2-18 UCC 1-09


Newtownshandrum served up a highly impressive performance in disposing of UCC in the third round of the Cork county SHC. This was a one sided affair throughout and one felt that the young guns from North Cork had quite a reserve left indeed.
