As good as we have ever been
That was how team manager, Bernie O'Connor described Newtownshandrum's second half performance in dismantling Glen Rovers in last nights TSB Cork Co SHC encounter at Fermoy.
The reigning champions tore the heart out of the once mighty Glen with a scintillating display of power hurling that must have sent shivers down the spines of all would be challengers.
It was no wonder then O'Connor could hardly conceal his delight afterwards as reflected on an almost flawless exhibition.
"Naturally, I am delighted. I thought our display in that second half was the best we have given in two years and I was absolutely delighted with it.
"And it certainly answered those who said that we won a county last year without beating a city team and those who questioned us after our defeat earlier this year by the 'Barrs."
"That night we were short five of last year's team, two of our players had played earlier in the day and John Paul King had buried his mother he day before."

"The Glen might not be as good as they once were but this is still a big scalp for us and I am very proud of this performance."
O'Connor paid tribute to all his players but had a special mention for the defensive display given by his team in the first half.
"They were brilliant, just brilliant in the first half. I was happy enough at half time even though we were only two points ahead."
"We always felt we were in control and we would go on and win it. It was a great team display but there's a long way to go yet but we are motoring very well right now."
Looking to the future, the inspirational former star player himself would look no further than their next assignment with Carrigdhoun.
"With a divisional side, you never know what to expect. We are in the mood now and we'll take every game as it comes."
