Newtownshandrum 2-17 Carraigdhoun 2-11

With fifteen minutes of this game to go, Carraigdhoun were trailing by the bare minimum, 1-09 to 1-08, following a well take gaol from impressive substitute Michael Prout scoring the first of his two gaols for the night and with the rain falling heavier by the minute a big upset looked was on the cards.

However come it the hour …. , up stepped wing back Philip Noonan to score an inspirational score from the touchline, followed by 1-2 from play from Gerry O'Connor was enough to see Newtown through to the semi-final stage for the second year in a row and sets up a mouth watering clash with many peoples favouties for the title Imokilly.

The class of the O'Connor twins and John Paul King up front was really the difference betweeen the sides on a pitch that surprisingly enough wasn't up to the usual standard one would expect for this level of contest. The grass looked quiet long in places which meant the ball wasn't travelling as fast as it should. That said, a lot of work obviously went into staging this match, with ample parking provided very close to the field.

Getting back to the match itself , Carraigdhoun were first to settle and with midfielders John Mullaney and Rory Dwyer hurling out of their skins, Newtown's forwards didn't see much of the ball in the first half. However this didn't bother one player John Paul King, often going back to his own half back line for possession, he led the way with some wonderful scores, none more so that his goal. Playing one-two with John O'Connor he rattled the net form fifteen yards to give Newtown the cussion of a goal lead at the break.
