All roads lead to Ballyanley ( Home of Iniscarra GAA) this Saturday for the first of the four Quarter-Finals of the County Senior Hurling championship games between defending champions Newtownshandrum and Divisional outfit carraigdhoun.
While Carraigdhoun are somewhat of an unknown quantity, they have a number of very strong Intermediate teams in their ranks coupled with some talented players playing at a high Junior standard in the division. The team on Saturday will mainly compromise of players from Ballymartle, Ballinhassig, Valley Rovers, Tracton and Courcey Rover, all very strong clubs in their ranks.
To get to this stage of the competition Carrigdoun have defeated two strong teams in Midleton and Douglas and while divisional teams often find it hard to get numbers together, Carrigdhoun have had a number of very good challenge match in the last few weeks so their sharpness should not be called into question.
Newtown will go into this game as hot favourites having given the Glen a real hammering in the last round. However they are minus the services of their influential center-forward Donal Mulcahy on this occasion (broken finger) so filling this position could be a bit of a headache for the selectors, given that their regular center-forward form last year Michael Morrissey is still out. Gerry O'Connor should fill that gap leaving a possible starting position for Bertie Troy in the inside line. The rest of the team will be unchanged form the last outing.
If Newtown are to harbour thoughts of retaining their crown a big win must be achieved on Saturday to set-up a possible mouthwatering semi-final clash with wither Imokilly or Sarsfields.
