SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONS
We left a little village
on a fine October day
To go to Pairc Ui Chaoimh for
a hurling game to play.
With supporters of all ages
from young to very old
With ribbons flags and banners
of colours green and gold.
We were up for the County final
Corks' great hurling crown
To try and win the senior
for the first time in Newtown.
The players marching on the day
behind a fine pipe band
With the supporters cheering from their seats
up in the covered stand.
The game was played so fast
with hurling at it's best
With question asked upon the day
would our young guns stand the test.
Before the game was over we
had a mighty scare
When the ref blew for a penalty
for an infringement in the square.
When the final whistle blew
we stood up to cheer our own
For then we knew we had the County
at the expense of Erins Own.
We have all heard of Blackrock
and also the 'Bars
Not forgetting the Glen
as well as the Sars.
I now have got a new one
I must write it down
For the new County Champions
come from Newtown
