Scenes of great excitment were witnessed at Croke Park on September 5th 1999, at the Junior All Ireland Camogie Final when Muireann Harrington and Caroline Giltinan both from Newtownshandrum played on the victorious Cork Junior team against Derry. Another great day for Newtownshandrum when Ben O'Connor lined out with the Cork Senior Hurling team in the All Ireland Final of 12th September 1999, against Kilkenny.
